Swiss
manufacturer and relative newcomer Speake-Marin arrived on the scene in 2002
and today produces around 400 watches annually. The Englishman Peter
Speake-Marin studied watchmaking in London and horological complications in
Switzerland before becoming a restorer of antique watches. Over the years he collaborated
on timepieces with Harry Winston, Maîtresdu Temps, and MB&F.
The
Speake-Marin brand was born in 2002. The first watch produced was known as the
Foundation Watch, which was a hand-made tourbillon pocket watch. This success
led to Speake-Marinbecoming a member of
the Académie Horlogère
des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI).
Other
successful lines followed, including the Marin 1 Mk I in 2009, which featured
Speake-Marin’s first in-house movement, the SM2 caliber. Their Cabinet des
Mysteres is a thrilling line in that it creates unique and limited-edition
pieces by customer request.
Though Speake-Marin
departed in 2017, their timepieces remain visionary, highly individual, and
quite elegant by way of enamel dials, intriguing engraving, and original,
spirited decoration. Speake-Marin’s most important collections include the HMS,
J-Class, Resilience, Serpent Calendar, and the Velsheda. Actor Pierce Brosnan
serves as the brand’s current brand ambassador.
